Food Finders

Our Advocacy Work

Our advocacy work focuses on policies that reduce food waste, strengthen food recovery systems, and expand equitable access to food. We collaborate with community partners, policymakers, and coalitions to advance solutions that address both the environmental and social dimensions of the food system.

Learn more about the key pillars that shape our legislative framework and guide our advocacy efforts.

Food Security & Nutrition

Food is a human right and through our Community Marketplace, we provide direct food distribution while coordinating additional resources and services to offer our community holistic support in one place. Beyond direct service, we advocate for policies that expand food access, strengthen nutrition programs, and remove barriers for those who need it most. Some of the ways we do this include:

  • Advocating for policies that expand food access and protect nutrition programs like Food4All, the Feed the Community Act, and Market Match
  • Keeping our community informed and engaged on legislative developments that directly impact their ability to put food on the table
  • Supporting programs that strengthen the connection between food access, community resources, and long-term food security

Climate Justices & Sustainable Food Systems

Food waste is both an environmental and equity issue. We advocate at every level of government to build a food system that is sustainable, just, and climate conscious. Some of the ways we do this include:

  • Advocating for policies that reduce organic waste and invest in food recovery infrastructure to ensure surplus food reaches people rather than landfills
  • Tracking and supporting the implementation of SB 1383
Pushing for federal food date labeling reform and a strong Farm Bill
  • Coordinating with local and regional food recovery organizations to strengthen our collective impact and ground our advocacy.

Social Equity & Justice

Food insecurity is rooted in systemic inequity. We work to ensure that communities most impacted by hunger have a voice in the policies that affect them. Some of the ways we do this include:

  • Championing policies like Food4All that center the needs of immigrants and low-income families
  • Collaborating with partners through spaces like the Long Beach Food Equity Roundtable to coordinate resources and amplify underserved voices
  • Supporting community health efforts like the Mi Vida Cuenta needs assessment to ensure food security is meaningfully captured in public health planning.

Food Finders is a nonprofit 501c3 food rescue organization with a mission to rescue food, reduce hunger, and improve nutrition in the communities we serve.

This project is funded in part by L.A. Care Health Plan and will benefit low-income and uninsured residents of Los Angeles County.
